Angels didn't need to sleep, as Heaven was ever-vigilant. Of course, Aziraphale could sleep if he wanted, but usually he didn't. He liked reading more, so there was at least the appeal of reading in bed that would call to him; sometimes he would dress as if he were about to go to sleep, and then spend two days reading a book series whilst propped up among the pillows.

Not in this hotel - not yet, anyway, even though the bed looked quite comfortable. He was far more distracted by other things. It was the middle of the night and he sat at the bar, a half-drunk Fiji at his elbow, and in his hands he was holding the phone the rather colourful receptionist had given him the other day.

For a moment Aziraphale had thought the woman was handing him a very sleek-looking explosive device, because if there was one thing he knew about phones it was that they didn't look like that. But no, it was definitely a phone. It had numbers on it. Purportedly, it could call people; but it also did a whole host of other things. Send electronic messages. Play music. Take pictures, even. In his first hour of using it, he managed to accomplish absolutely nothing, except accidentally turn the ringer off (and it took him even longer to figure out how to turn it back on).

He was getting the hang of it now, though, he supposed. But the phone's habit of correcting his words when he was playing around with the keyboard was enough to sorely try his very angelic patience. Regardless he hoped he survived the Apocalypse, because now he was really looking forward to leaving the twentieth century behind him.

Intoxicated. Yes, that was- that was the word she was looking for. Intoxicated was just the very thing she could use to describe herself...or her state...the state of herself?

While the details of it had become increasingly fuzzy with each of the delightful, oh so colorful cocktails the bartender sat in front of her (how many had she had again?), Constance was fairly certain the day had begun well enough. There had been a bath, a bath! One with an endless supply of hot water piped right into her room so she might lie in her tub with the dawn light filtering in through the glass of her colored windows and wiggle her toes in easy contentedness.

But then there- ah! There had been the issue of dressing. Or, rather, not of dressing but of what to dress herself in when her only...dress, yes, had been worn already for the day before. She could have made do with it if she had had to, had even pulled it on while not pulling too much of a face, but had been all too grateful upon meeting the lovely Ruby in the hallway not far from her door.

Never had she seen a woman who wore so little out in public. It had left her gaping in the second before she had recovered herself, to see so much skin on display with not so much a flicker of concern in the other woman's expression as she had smiled and introduced herself. Somehow - now here the details were particularly fuzzy at that moment - they had gotten onto the subject of Constance's singular dress and somehow further the conversation had become one of the other woman, still a stranger, but so earnestly friendly, had volunteered her help.

All of which led to her sitting there at the bar of the Smoking Room, wearing pants of all things while Ruby slid a drink in front of her. She was certain there had been sense behind the action, and no, she did not feel the least bit overexposed with the buttoned shirt she wore beneath her corset or the coat she wore that hung down to her knees (she tried not to giggle at the thought of needing to cover her bum, but was only partially successful). What was even more certain was that these - those little cocktails, they were delicious.

Ruby had gone to her room smelling of cheeseburgers often enough that one might assume she grew tired of them, though the one piled high in front of her could easily make a lie out of that. She had the day off from the Smoking Room but was still tucked away in one of its booths, a plate bearing a half-eaten cheeseburger and a scattering of fries next to a mostly smeared ketchup puddle in front of her. In one hand was a copy of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night, and while she kept glancing up and around to see who had joined her for lunch in the bar, she was enjoying the book very much. Reading was not a past time she made enough time for, she’d decided, and her New Year’s resolution had been to tackle the knee-high pile of “To Read” books that had gathered on her side of the bed she shared with Graham before she or he tripped over them for the millionth time.

She glanced up and around at the bar once more as she selected another fry and swirled the tip in ketchup, bringing it to her mouth for a bite before casting her attention back down to the book. She had heard somewhere that Fitzgerald’s wife Zelda was allegedly responsible for a good deal of his work, this book included, and she thought she could believe it. This book had the sort of prose that was not frilly but touchable, the sort of “fiction” one might write after taking a good, long look at both themselves and their marriage. A definite feminine touch, but who really knew in the end? All she was really sure of was that the story had proven to be brilliant and insightful and sad, and while Ruby usually preferred adventure stories and this one was definitely not that, it was holding her attention marvelously.

Idly, she moved to wipe the salt from her fingers on a napkin before turning a page, glancing up once again between the break of one chapter and the start of another. She’d opted for a pint of beer with her burger, and nearly jolted at the realization that she’d been neglecting it all too much between her people watching, her burger, and her book. She sat the book face down on the table, still open and far away from her food to keep from either wetting the pages or getting them dirty, and picked her beer up for a nice, long drink.

Still a woman, and Loki was doing his best not to worry about it. It certainly did offer an interesting spin on things, though, especially when it came to him going out and about in the hotel. When it came to attractiveness Loki had very little opinion, one way or another, regarding his own face. But as a woman he could easily see that he was attractive, at least to a certain type of person, that person being himself. It brought a strange sort of confidence to someone who was already confident, but not in the ways he was aware of.

So in that regard, he had decided, for a moment, to flaunt it. The dress he wore was a weave of green and black, off one shoulder and cut just above the knee, revealing more pale, creamy skin than he ever had as a man. A good section of calves was revealed, as well, topped in heeled, laced ankle boots. Style from different worlds was never something he had much difficulty in grasping, though certainly he had a tendency to stop once he had found something suitable and wearable. This had a distinct brush of Ruby's influence, though mostly he had simply followed the direction she had pointed him in.

While some of his peers from Asgard were more interested in keeping their body tuned, Loki preferred to keep his mind sharp first of all. He was sitting on a bench in one of the hotel's gardens, which he understood had an 'oriental' theme according to Midgard, and beside him there was a stack of books. The topics were all in relation to one another - they were extensive histories of different continents on a certain planet, covering everything from its societies to geological movements from fresh Stone Age to dirty, polluted end. One, however, described the pattern of movement of that planet within a certain solar system. Whoever could have written these documents, he did not know, for it was information that could be compiled only by a strange, vast mind. Yet Loki had read it all, and now he was translating it.

The original text was a very dead language, and he was carefully and calmly inscribing it using pen and notebook into the alphabet of Midgard. He didn't know of anyone who would like to read it, but it was something to do, kept his mind active. Translations were always interesting - though Loki read, wrote and spoke many languages, there were always words that fell into and out of use, or had no counterpart. In that he was entertained.

The dreamshade burns through his blood.

It's not that Charming hadn't believed Hook when he'd described the sheer torture and agony that the poison would cause in his veins, but it had only been the lightest of scratches. It hadn't been enough to tell Emma and Snow about, but now he was beginning to worry. When they'd entered Neal's cave, Charming had followed along and instead of the cave, he'd been back in the hotel, clasping his side and staring around him as panic gripped him, fighting with relief.

He could rest here. Maybe he might even be able to slow the poison using some sort of medicine they had readily available here that wasn't in Neverland, but the fear that the cure is only on the shores of that dark island grips him and holds the panic in.

Angrier than he's been in ages, Charming takes it out on the nearest wall, putting his fist through and creating a hole that has his torso singing with pain as the dreamshade lances through his body. He supposes that he might need to start taking it easy, given that the bloodflow would only distribute the poison faster.

It's a sad, horrible state of affairs, but for the first time since Charming had set sail to Neverland, he finds himself knowing that his best chance is a world away and it's Hook. He stares at the damaged wall, regretting his actions. "Sorry," he says, to the passers-by. "I'll clean it up, if you give me a moment."

She'd decided to go with Caesar's Palace. It did have a nightclub in it, but Joan had decided to start with a bit of gambling before she started dancing. She'd gone to Las Vegas twice before, the first time with several other med students, for an exciting break from her studies. She had graduated with top honours, which meant she had lived a life that had no end to stress and pressure, and Vegas remained a shining blur to her memory. The second time she'd gone was for a doctor's conference, and it had been a relatively uneventful trip. She thought she'd grown out of wanting to go back, but the door within the Nexus was just so tempting she knew she couldn't resist its siren call.

"Have you ever gambled before?" Joan asked Ruby. They had picked an adequately flashy slot machine. They'd come through the door together - it had opened out at the end of a corridor in the hotel - but Joan knew that her, and the rest of the residents who had decided to come, were just as likely to disappear as stick around. Still, it was a girl's night in that Joan was insistent that if they arrived together, they would leave together. Vegas could be dangerous, some of the Nexus residents didn't even come from the same world - Joan wasn't even sure if this was the same Vegas she herself had been to or not - and safety first, as always. If she was going to convince people to step through she would at least keep alert enough to make sure everyone got back. Hence, they were to meet at the door again in six hours. Until then, free reign, and Joan would try not to worry.

She liked Ruby, who was younger than her, and had that sort of cheerful brightness that was infectious. Joan was around a lot of people who only saw the darker side of life, and it was refreshing to be with an optimist for a change.

[Joan will have sent a little message to everyone who was interested to meet at the Vegas door at 8PM, with a note that they will all return together to the Nexus at 2AM unless anyone makes other arrangements. She also left a notice at the front desk for anyone else interested. Feel free to tag Joan in the casino, Joan and Ruby, or start your own little threads anywhere else in Vegas. Obvs a gathering post for the ladies, anyone who identifies as a lady, or anyone who wants to pick a lady up! <3]

So this is way unexpected, but it's not like it's the first time Marceline's run into a strange interdimensional portal. It's definitely the first time she found one in her fridge, but that's life.

And hey, there's no sunlight, so why worry about all that junk? Nah. Marceline's just gonna float through the hallways and explore, because she's just chill like that, as most Vampire Queens are. She's even got a box of strawberries that she's eating one by one, poking a fang into one and sucking out all the red color. She's even being nice and putting the lifeless gray ones back in the box.

"Man this place is so weird," she says, floating two feet off the ground as she explores.

Though the main dining hall didn't bear the typical Valentine's Day decoration, it had been changed enough to subtly reflect the mood through small fairy lights hanging from the walls and twinkling in the dimmed light of the grand room. Each place was set with the finest silver cutlery and adorned with bold red plates. Up and down the table, seats awaited their guests to enjoy the five course meal, roses set in vases every few feet along the table.

At the head, a string quartet band played quietly so as not to disrupt the conversation and waiters kept wine glasses full, empty plates cleared, and worked to keep the mood high. As the sun began to set, the dinner began to be served.

Graham, Ruby and Charming find each other in the Conservatory

It had taken Ruby a few days to come to terms with her new situation, though a rare show of practicality had won out in the end after a lengthy discussion with Sheriff Graham and the man she knew as David Nolan. She wasn't going to be leaving the Nexus any time soon, at least not for a permanent return to her home, and if she was going to stay in the hotel, money had to be made for the sake of general upkeep. Her skills were admittedly limited, though thankfully there was work to be had in the hotel for someone who had grown up in a world of customer service and food preparation. Getting a job in the bar had seemed an appropriate change of pace, or at least all the change she could currently handle in a world that had been turned inside out for the moment, and after she'd been accepted for the position she'd started almost right away.

In addition to being a decidedly and thrillingly more swank environment than she was used to, the clientele was definitely more diverse in that it was a room full of people she'd never met before. For all she lacked in knowledge concerning the outside world she was attempting to put forth enough effort in charming everyone to get by in terms of the standard awkwardness she had purely by being the new girl in a very strange and new environment. She'd been serving the same food and drinks to basically the same people for longer than she cared to remember, and if this was her first attempt at branching out, she didn't want to botch it up.

The small, round tray was steady on the flat of her palm as she sat a round of drinks down at one of the tables, smiling when the patrons paused their conversation to gesture their thanks, and then continued their conversation. Ruby continued on, too, tucking her now empty tray under her arm as she looked around for someone waiting to be served.
