So this is way unexpected, but it's not like it's the first time Marceline's run into a strange interdimensional portal. It's definitely the first time she found one in her fridge, but that's life.

And hey, there's no sunlight, so why worry about all that junk? Nah. Marceline's just gonna float through the hallways and explore, because she's just chill like that, as most Vampire Queens are. She's even got a box of strawberries that she's eating one by one, poking a fang into one and sucking out all the red color. She's even being nice and putting the lifeless gray ones back in the box.

"Man this place is so weird," she says, floating two feet off the ground as she explores.

Ruby had come to understand that there were many wonders in the world(s) upon arriving at the Nexus, though when she rounded the corner on the way up to her room after a shift at the bar and found someone floating, she had to stop and take a long look. When it was obvious that her eyes weren't deceiving her, she was immediately sad that she hadn't stuck around for drinks after her shift tonight. She wasn't one for excesses, but even she knew she was way too sober for this.

"That's..." She started, then remembered to smile. No reason to be unfriendly, even if she was baffled by this person's gravity immunity. "That's quite a trick."

Ruby watched as the person before her touched down to the ground, then huffed a laugh. "I can imagine it would be," she said with a faint shake of her head. "It would certainly make standing on my feet for hours a bit more comfortable. You're quite fortunate." She smiled. "I don't think I've seen you around before. My name is Ruby."

Ruby had never seen anyone take so much tactile pleasure out of pronouncing her name, though she supposed she'd never seen anyone floating before, either. Tonight was a night of bewildering firsts, it would seem.

"Ruby," she agreed with a nod. "Thank you. What's your name?"

"The... Oh," Ruby said and nodded, turning that over. She supposed she'd been groomed to expect certain things from vampires thanks to the movies and tv that she'd grown up with, and Marceline didn't immediately fit into the Bela Lugosi stereotype that would've had her thoughts turning down the 'vampire' road from the first. Then again, there was the strangeness of her coloring, and the grey lumps - were they strawberries? - that she had been eating upon Ruby's arrival.

"Well, I have to say, you're my first vampire. And my first queen. Two for you, Marceline." She smiled. "Which is also quite a lovely name."

"Is that what those are? I'd been wondering," she said as she looked at the grey lumps of what were apparently fruit in the little box that Marceline held. Ruby loved strawberries, truth be told, but there was something to the grey color of them that did not inspire her appetite. "I wouldn't care for any right now, thank you. If you don't mind me asking, what happened to them?"

Ruby watched as the red drained from the strawberry as promptly as a glass being drained of milk, and had to blink and shake her head. Marceline was so entirely unlike anything Ruby had encountered before, but that was the charm of the Nexus, wasn't it? She smiled. "Well that's another splendid trick," she said with a chuckle. "Is it just out of food, or can you drain the red out of other things?"

"Well, we'll be sure to keep you away from my closet," she said teasingly, propping one hand on her hip as she moved to rest one shoulder against the wall. This was a very random encounter, but she was greatly enjoying it. "So since you're the vampire queen, do you have a king? Or a consort? Or how does vampire royalty work, exactly?"

Ruby's brows arched, wondering for a half second if she should be afraid, but she'd always been raised to believe that expecting something bad to happen meant something bad would happen, and Ruby was enjoying her conversation with Marceline too much to believe it would go south.

"Go girl," she said with a huffed laugh. "I believe it."

"Now that is some advice my granny must've forgotten to give me, but it seems pretty legit," Ruby said, still grinning as she lifted one hand to select one of the gray strawberries. It was strange how it felt, cool and moist and, well, normal, while being such a strange shade. "He sounds like a douche anyway."

"Ugh. Fie on him then, right?" Ruby said, lifting the grey strawberry to her mouth and, after a second, having a tiny nibble off the tip. It tasted like a strawberry, just as Marceline had promised, and she didn't immediately fall over dead from it. She smiled at the other girl brightly. "So, how long have you been at the Nexus?"

"Behind your ketchup? Wow," Ruby said, shaking her head at how disorienting that had to have been. She'd found walking out of the diner and into the Nexus lobby disorienting enough, let alone had she been opening her fridge and found herself somewhere else. "That had to knock you for a loop."
