Listening to the fish

She had been told not to explore without her sister. Of course, Buffy was overly protective of Dawn in this place where they knew very little about their surroundings. And maybe since overly protective was her sister's default in regards to her, Dawn should change that to supremely protective. But Dawn had a habit of not listening to her sister and doing her own thing. She was older now, a college student even, and didn't really think most people here even knew what 'the key' was or how they could try to use it.

This is what has her standing at an open door, peeking inside in excited wonderment. She hasn't quite stepped in yet. Mostly, she's just looking in and marvelling at the sight of the Brontosauruses drinking from the lake, their long necks curving and dipping down or rising high up over the ground.

“This is so freakin' cool...” She murmurs to herself, on the edge of stepping in, but also something holding her back from fully doing so. She saw Jurrasic Park. Plus, there's that little voice of her sister in her ear telling her to be careful, not to go off on her own, not to speak to strangers, yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah and so forth.

"Dawn! Wait!" Because she's not wrong, but Buffy sort of wants to be the first one on the ground. No problem. She leaps from the tree, ducking and rolling when she lands to come up to her feet, stance defensive and on the alert.

"Come on down and stay with me."

Definitely not so funny, Dawn, but knowing her sister is close, Buffy moves a little faster. That rumbling has nothing to do with making her go faster. Nope. Not at all.

"I should have mentioned that doesn't apply when we're being chased by dinosaurs."

Buffy stops, stooping low to grab Dawn's arm and bodily haul her up. She shoves her toward the door, standing her ground, scythe in hand.

"Dawn, run. I'm right behind you. I just want to slow this guy down."

The roar of the T-Rex is deafening. For a moment, Buffy can't move, can't think, can't do anything. She recovers with typical slayer grace, aware that Dawn is waiting on her. She's got to buy them a tiny bit of time.

"Seriously? Use some mouth wash," she quips, darting in with her scythe, almost a blur as she slashes at what she thinks might be a T-Rex equivalent of an ankle. It does the job, making the T-Rex fall back, screaming at an even louder decibel than before.

For her part, Buffy isn't wasting any time. The T-Rex is crying over his boo-boo and Buffy is dashing to the door. She launches herself through it, taking Dawn with her so that they both land in a tangle of limbs on the hotel floor. She kicks the door shut then rolls off Dawn, onto her back so she can just lay there and catch her breath.

Buffy 1
T-Rex 0

Should have had more faith, Dawnie!

Yeah, sorry about that tackle thing. She was a little concerned about not dying or not getting Dawn killed when she'd made every tackle in the NFL envious with that one.

"It's all fun and games 'til a T-Rex wants to make you a snack."
