Belle had a room in the Nexus Hotel.

She did, it was true, but some nights she forget to go back to it because there was such a beautiful library at her disposal. Her hut on the island had been limited by its space and she had cycled books in and out due to necessity, but this was sprawling and beautiful and so wonderful that it reminded her of the library that the Beast had given her. Some nights, she genuinely forgot to go back to her room and fell asleep on the plush couches of the library with fables and stories and far off lands lulling her to sweet dreams. Tonight, she awoke when dusk was beginning to spill into the windows of the hotel and a dry taste in her mouth told her that she'd been asleep longer than she wanted to be.

Absently, Belle pushed to her feet and tucked two tomes under her arm to make her way back upstairs to her room. If she kept falling asleep in the library, people were going to start thinking she was mad here. That wasn't a reputation she wanted to follow her.

Covering a yawn with her hand, Belle reached for the doorknob and tugged it open, staggering to a halt before it was too late. Staring into the abyss of somewhere she'd only read about in stories, she watched as legions marched up and down the seven hills, wearing clothes that hadn't been worn in years and years.

Belle took a step back and cautiously looked at the frame around the door, then took a step forward into the separation between thousands of worlds and one she had never seen before. "It's Rome," she breathed out reverently, still stuck staring. "That can't be, can it? It looks so real, can it truly be?"
