i'd lost the plot so bad
There were many strange doors within the Nexus and while Thor had become a bit more cautious about just pushing through, sometimes he forgot that very important detail. Today was one of those days. He had decided after a long morning of puttering around that he wished to explore and with Mjolnir in hand, set out to a door he had never touched before.
It seemed normal at first. It was a nondescript door that led to a nondescript place but after stepping over the threshold, Mjolnir became too heavy to wield. He had never experienced that except when he had been deemed unworthy but he had done nothing this time, nothing to render himself incapable of being a good man and a fine warrior.
Still, there was something irrevocably different and it was something that Thor could not fathom. He would have to leave the hammer behind? He had never been without it, save those weeks with Jane when he was unworthy of wielding it and now, it seemed, that had happened once again.
Beaten down, he trod back into the hotel. He did not want to be somewhere vulnerable, not without Mjolnir, and did not want anyone to know of his shame. Instead, he went to the bar to have a pint of ale and was surprised when the human ale seemed to affect him in a way it never had before. He had never been drunk before in the hotel and now, it seemed, he was well on his way there.
"I'll have another," he slurred, waving his tankard toward a server. "You'll bring me one more?"

That usually happens around Thor.
Cautiously, he sets down a bottle of beer and looks around for the hammer, pleased that at least that's not in the mix right now. "I never thought I'd say this, but maybe you should sober up?"
no subject
"I wish to drink away my pain," Thor said. He was drunk enough that such a statement did not seem absurd though, really, it was a bit petulant. He imagined he was entitled to that upon losing his true identity and everything that made him Thor.
"I do not wish to be sober, Olaf."

"I am human," Thor said, a hint of disgust beneath his words. While there were advantages to being a mortal, it seemed like everything that made him who he was had been taken away in one instant. He had no choice in the matter. Had he been given a choice, Thor thought he might have chosen it eventually to be with Jane but to have it ripped away? It ached.
"I have lost the ability to wield Mjolnir and I feel...ancient."
no subject
"That happened to me once," he supplies, thinking of when Axl had stripped their powers. "I got old, too. Is that going to happen to you? Will you get all wrinkly and ancient?"
no subject
"I would hope that if it does, it occurs at a natural rate and not an accelerated one," Thor said. He had not prepared for that, having only just wrapped his mind around being human and it was not something he looked forward to experiencing.
"Do you have any experience with this? Is it Ragnarok? The signs have not been there..."
no subject
no subject
"No, not particularly. I simply went through a door and then everything seemed to fade away. I have no real indication as to how this happened." It was frustrating to no end, especially since there was always the threat of Loki or others that might need to be stopped. What good was he, without Mjolnir? Without his strength?
"Has it happened to you since coming here?"
no subject

That was something that Thor, in his despair, had not thought about previously. If it was merely a matter of encountering the door again, all would be well as soon as he went back through and regained his former self.
"A rack? I do not think I follow that particular way of phrasing things."

"You have become a woman since being here? And back again?" Thor had not had that happen to him but it had happened to Steve a few times; it was not outside the realm of possibility that some day his own number might be up.
"Perhaps this is like that, then."
no subject
"Enjoy it," he encourages. "Do something you can't do while you're a god."
no subject
"But what is there that I can do when I am not myself?" It was not something that had ever occurred to Thor, to embrace these changes. What could he do as a mortal that he could not do as a God?
"The only thing I am capable of is getting very, very drunk."

Thor arched a brow. "High? What do you mean?" This was not a term he was familiar with and he imagined it had nothing to do with flying, if it was something that a human could do that he, as an Asgardian, could not.
"Explain this."
no subject
"They're mood-altering things," he explains. "They make the world really, really awesome."
no subject
"Mood-altering? My mood could use altering," Thor said. He was upset about having lost what made him truly a son of Asgard and if these drugs could aid him in not feeling so miserable about it, he would be happy to take them. Besides, it was not often that something of Midgard affected him the same way it affected a human. Perhaps Olaf was right. Perhaps he should embrace it.
"I wish to try your drugs."
no subject
"This is premium shit," he promises. "Ingrid and I got it in Bali. She's Snotra," he offers, as if that matters.
no subject
"Bali? Where is that?" Thor asked skeptically, wondering how this small little thing could affect him. Several full glasses of beer, he could understand, and he was several pints in by this point. A small little pill like this? How could humans be so weak?
"This seems too small for someone of my size, human or not."

Thor took the tab and waited for a moment, wondering if it would affect him at all.
"How quickly does it work normally?"
no subject

There was a warmth that suffused him then, a feeling of contentment and happiness that Thor had never felt before. It felt like he could do anything and always heedless, he felt downright reckless.
"I think I can do anything, Olaf."

"I feel immortal," Thor said, extending one hand and examining it thoroughly. It seemed to glow, in a way, and he wondered if this new heightened sensation was solely from the drug or if it was an effect of being human for the time being.
"How long does it last?"
no subject
no subject
Thor blinked slowly and let a smile creep across his lips. "I think I could grow very used to this. So what do you do while affected? Sit around? Or do you do something in particular? How do you best enjoy this sensation?"
no subject
"Don't fight it," he insists. "Just let it take you."
no subject
Thor laughed. "This, this I could get used to," he decided. It was nice to simply let his burdens drift from his shoulders and exist for a while and the drug seemed to take all things other than feeling good off his mind.
"You should join me," he said, grinning lazily. "Yes?"
no subject
no subject
"Because you see the future," Thor said. It was an obvious statement, of course, but the drug seemed to have dulled his intuition somewhat to the point where he felt the need to make the most obvious of statements.
"Have you seen anything while here in the hotel?"
no subject
no subject
"Signs and portents never make for clear communication. I like to be direct. Usually with a hammer," Thor said, laughing loudly. Right now, everything amused him, but especially the idea of trying to read signs from Norse gods.
"We have never been terribly united on that front, though."
no subject
no subject
"Front? I do not follow your meaning," Thor said. Everything was a bit blurry considering he had taken the drug and he did not often follow modern speech when conversing with those who lived in the hotel.
"You will have to explain."
no subject
no subject
"On whether or not signs and portents are a good thing," Thor said, finally catching the thread once more. It was difficult through the haze of drugs but he thought he could manage a little. It would not have done for him to be the sort to be an oracle - it was not a task he was well-suited to.
"I prefer to just smash things. My brother, on the other hand, reads into things a little more."
no subject
no subject
"Yes, Loki. I've only one brother," Thor explained. "And it is Loki. We do not share a common lineage but we grew up alongside one another all the same. He is my brother, in spite of our differences, though I will never understand his way of engaging the world."
no subject

"Challenging is the least of it," Thor admitted. It was easier to do so with his inhibitions lowered by the drug and it felt nice to just get these things off his chest, so to speak.
"He challenges me at every turn simply because I am my father's son. Why is that?"
no subject
"It means you're family."
