Jim has spent the last month or so investigating the various doors that make up this Nexus and he has yet to discover the rhyme or reason behind it. It seems like the Nexus is some sort of hub between universes, some sort of place where inter-dimensional travel is nothing more than walking through a door to a new destiny. It doesn't have the same impact as piloting a ship, of course, but it's not half bad.
Jim wants to know more. He thinks that there's enough doors out there to warrant further investigation on more than just an intellectual level. What if there are refugees who need a haven or resources they could harness to make the Nexus better? These things are the crux of his own five-year mission, the one he's temporarily detoured from, and he thinks he should continue it in whatever way he can.
As much as he likes to think he can do this on his own, Starfleet has taught him that teams are always a better option. Four heads are usually better than one and he thinks if they could organize teams of four to explore the doors, they could do recon and research and catalog the new worlds they encounter and put together a database of which worlds are safe and which are never to be explored alone.
He puts out an announcement on the hotel's network for those interested to meet him in the Smoking Room for a drink and sets up there, enjoying a nice glass of whiskey.

"Fantastic," Jim says, moving the sign up sheet toward her. "I don't know when we're going to start doing expeditions but I at least want to get enough people signed up so we can have several different teams. Have you done a lot of exploring through the doors yet?"

"Vegas," Jim says, grinning broadly at her. "Which, if you haven't gone there, it's a hell of a time. I highly recommend at least one trip in through to the casinos even if you come out broke afterward. It's worth the money."
Jim had wisely quit playing poker while he was ahead and was better for it.

That seems ... tame. (Which may or may not be a challenge.)

"Worth the money? Sure, that's the only thing I'm betting." Jim is adventurous but there's being adventurous and there's being reckless and he likes to think that he's put his reckless days behind him for good. Sometimes being a captain is knowing when to hold them - both figuratively and literally.
"Do you play?"

This man seems too young to have put behind his adventurous days. What a shame.

"We should have a game some night. Get some people together, make a party of it?" Jim has always wanted to institute a poker game on the Enterprise but with a Vulcan as a first officer, it's kind of hard to explain the logic behind it. Go figure.
"I'd be happy to deal a lady in, if you wanted."

Not that she has a lot going on, either way, which could easily lead to boredom.

"Busy schedule, huh? I always like to take some time off no matter how busy I am," Jim teases. "Good for morale."

"Oh, morale is a pretty delicate thing," Jim says, picking up on the thread of flirtation in her tone and aiming to tease it out a little more. He's always loved flirting with women even if it doesn't go anywhere; it makes him feel good and, more importantly, makes them feel good so there's no harm, right?
"I need lots of help with mine."

"Every day," Jim says, flashing her a broad grin. "I'm sure you know how it is, having to deal with a guy's delicate ego. Ladies always seem to know just exactly what to do."

"Now, now, be easy. I'm a fragile guy, deep down. I'm sure you couldn't tell underneath the gravitas and confidence but...cut me down? I might have a hard time getting back up," Jim teases.
"Don't wound me too deep."

"I'm looking to get the teams together by the end of next week," Jim says. He thinks this is enough time to float interest and assess skill sets before assembling anything together. He doesn't have anything else pressing, since he hasn't been able to get back to the Enterprise and if he doesn't have something to occupy his time he's just going to dwell and obsess on how he's letting down his crew.
"I'll send out another message when we're starting expeditions. I'm happy to have you on my own squad, if you want?"

She has nothing better to do either. Adventure will do her good, she thinks.
