He takes the opportunity of refilling her drink to provide himself a proper top-up, hoping to do it slyly so as not to cause her concern, though he fears such a thing is impossible when Constance is on the case. His eyes turn to the number of glasses before her and knows that something must be troubling her greatly. He, however, cannot throw stones at glass houses when it comes to drowning one's sorrows in alcohol.
