With her brows drawn together under the weight of thought the topic demanded, she needed little more prompting to decide that Athos' opinion was likely the closest she could come on the question of what needed to be said. Or, in this case, what needed to be left unsaid. Athos had answered the question of whether foreknowledge could change events had they had fallen, removing any debate of whether she could or even should attempt to prevent Bonacieux's death (a question she had struggled over until it had led her directly to a series of cocktails) and made certain that to tell d'Artagnan of it could only do harm.

Her smile was grateful as she let her question and all its implications fall to the side for the sake of the comfort of his company and the understanding that he expected nothing of her but what she was. "Yes," she agreed, "That would be awful."
