While nothing of his concern or sympathy for the woman left him, at her words, Steve froze. He wanted to focus on the edge of panic to her voice, to attempt to soothe away the strained sound of her voice and ease her back to her assurance that her friend had survived whatever they had gone through. That the man was safe, no matter what he may or may not remember.
